KWANZAA The Afrikan American Celebration to Practice Everyday

Kwanzaa: The Afrikan American Celebration to Practice Everyday

Kwanzaa (/ˈkwɑːn.zə/) is an African American Holiday!

This week-long celebration is held in the United States and in other nations of the African diaspora. It was created in 1965 by Maulana Karenga and was first celebrated in 1966. The celebration honors Afrikan heritage and culture and is observed from December 26 to January 1, culminating in a feast and gift-giving.

Kwanzaa is one of the 1st specifically African-American holidays. According to Karenga, the name Kwanzaa derives from the Swahili phrase "matunda ya kwanza", meaning "first fruits of the harvest." The choice of Swahili, an East African language, reflects its status as a symbol of Pan-Africanism, especially in the 1960s.

Another African American Celebration feast, that is held traditionally on the 4th Sunday of the month of November, is Umoja Karamu (Unity Feast); Created by Dr. Edward Sims in 1971. http://amen-parankh.blogspot.com/2015/11/2015-umoja-karamu-unity-feast.html - This feast recognizes 5 key periods of Black History in the Americas.

Kwanzaa is a celebration that has its roots in the Black Panther poor people's empowerment movement of the 1960s and was established as a means to help African Americans reconnect with their African cultural and historical heritage by uniting in meditation, the study of African traditions, and Nguzo Saba, the "seven principles of African Heritage" which Karenga said, "is a communitarian African philosophy". For Karenga, a leader in the Black Panther Power movement in California, of the 1960s and 1970s, the creation of such holidays also emphasized an essential premise that "you must have a cultural revolution before any other revolution. The cultural revolution gives identity, purpose, and direction."

Kwanzaa has 7 core principles called Nguzo Saba. (The Nguzo Saba means: Principles Seven-) to guide and direct the path of liberation:

Umoja means unity.
Kujichagulia means self-determination.
Ujima means collective working together.
Ujamaa means cooperative Economics
Nia means purpose.
Kuumba means a handmade basket to represent creativity.
Imani means faith, especially faith in ourselves.

Each day of the celebration is noted to celebrate a specific principle. The Swahili greeting of Habari Gani? is a question: What's the News? And the proper response is the principle of that day.

Day 1 Umoja (oo-MO-jah) Unity stresses the importance of togetherness for the family and the community, which is reflected in the African saying, "I am We," or "I am because We are."

Day 2 Kujichagulia (koo-gee-cha-goo-LEE-yah) Self-Determination requires that we define our common interests and make decisions that are in the best interest of our family and community.

Day 3 Ujima (oo-GEE-mah) Collective Work and Responsibility reminds us of our obligation to the past, present and future, and that we have a role to play in the community, society, and world.

Day 4 Ujamaa (oo-JAH-mah) Cooperative economics emphasizes our collective economic strength and encourages us to meet common needs through mutual support.

Day 5 Nia (NEE-yah) Purpose encourages us to look within ourselves and to set personal goals that are beneficial to the community.

Day 6 Kuumba (koo-OOM-bah) Creativity makes use of our creative energies to build and maintain a strong and vibrant community.

Day 7 Imani (ee-MAH-nee) Faith focuses on honoring the best of our traditions, draws upon the best in ourselves, and helps us strive for a higher level of life for humankind, by affirming our self-worth and confidence in our ability to succeed and triumph in righteous struggle.

There are 7 symbols that are represented for the harvest display:
Mkeka—woven mat: Symbolic of our tradition and history and therefore, the foundation on which we build
Kinara—candle holder: Symbolic of our roots, our parent people—continental Africans
Mishumaa Saba—the seven candles: Symbolic of the Nguzo Saba (7 principles), the matrix and minimum set of values which African people are urged to live by in order to rescue and reconstruct their lives in their own image and according to their own needs
Mazao—crops: Symbolic of African harvest celebrations and of the rewards of productive and collective labor
Muhindi—corn: Symbolic of our children and our future which they embody
Kikombe cha Umoja—unity cup: Symbolic of the foundational principle and practice of unity which makes all else possible
Zawadi—gifts: Symbolic of the labor and love of parents and the commitments made and kept by the children.

Secondary Symbols and Swahili terms during Kwanzaa

KWANZAA is a Pan-Afrikan holiday based on the various “First Fruits Festivals” observed around the Afrikan diaspora, known by different names (ex. “Odwira” among the Ashanti, “Eje” among the Yoruba, “Umkhosi” among amaZulu etc).
Based on careful studies, a team of Afrikan researchers, led by Dr Maulana Karenga, introduced Kwanzaa in 1966 as a Pan-Afrikan celebration for the unification of all Afrikan/Black people – regardless of faith, nationality, ideology, language, and birthplace.

ANCIENT AFRICANS WERE THE FIRST AMERICANS

Ancient Africans Were The First Americans

We venerate Ma the Creator of the Yoniverse!
We venerate our AKU (Divine personified Laws and principles)
We venerate our divine Father, Mother and child-Ausar, our Higher Self - Auset, our nurturing and healing energy, and Heru, our warrior spirit of justice.
We venerate our Sheps(Ancestors)
We venerate our Peret(seeds) and Anu(Newly born)

To connect with all Ankh (all living)

I Nedjur Ek Neteru! Anuk Dok Ter Net!

Amen Par Ankh means Sacred Temple of Life. We are founded in the heart of Urban Kansas City Missouri. We are an outreach center for our Youth, and gnome of Families for mentoring and support. We are Environmentalists and a cooperative of Creators- Green Artisans and Craft people who are rebuilding a Gnome Mafia (healthy place to live.) We are Teachers, Engineers, Artists, Ministers, and Grand Parents. To live in harmony with creation, following our highest version of self the KMT KRST consciousness of- Ausar's mandate to grow and produce life in benevolence and abundance- "to be fruitful and multiply"... we are establishing Amen Ankh Akademy Homeschool network and Communiversity of STEAM(science technology, engineering, arts and mathematics)

We know that ALL "HUE-MEN Beings (People of Color) come from MAMA AFRICA The Cradle of all human civilization, and all Black Coiled hair peoples are descendants of the Ancient Ancestors, who have lived and established dynasties of civilizations, aeons before the 10,000 years of Yurugu, the religious-historical Adam and Eve caucasian arrived. We are the Ancient Original ones, known as BES- Twa/pygmy, Khoisan, (gatherer-hunters), the Nubian (pastoral Shepherd Kings), KMT- Kemetic (Agriculturalist), Nordic, Pagan, Untouchable East Indian, Caribbean West Indian, the Xi Asians, Australian Aborigines, and Indigenous Americans!! Our Ancestors Presence existed on the planet beyond the times of Native American, Pacific Islanders, or Mongolian migrant peoples. Our Ancient Ancestors inhabited the Planet and spread civilizations, following the vortexes of the living waterways, and tectonic plates of the planet to build the mounds, and pyramid crystal prisms. Our totems, signs and symbols are all over the world, in every spiritual system and society. We are known as KMT- Ka-Ma-Ta (Body/Universe/Land of Mother Eartha), also known as the Sacred Children of Ra (the Sun)!  We are known by our dark complexion and our coiled hair.

Our Aku (Ancestars) traveled all over  Mama Eartha over many aeons of time. Using the air, earth and water vortexes, and the celestial star charts and seasons to guide us. We were here in the Aries age, before Taurus and the Piscean ages, and now we enter the Aquarian age. We are found in the 5 oceans, and 7 continental divides, Africa, Asia, Antarctica, Australia, Europe and the Americas. Before many of our children of Asia crossed the Bering straits to co-mingle with us as Native American Tribes of the south, we had established and raised our pyramids and tamahu (Tahanu/Obelisks) and mounds, with signs and symbols of our MA, BES and KMT Ancestors. "Indian" is included from Hindustan(modern-day India, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan). The Ancients were not described by any of these words and misnomers given by society, so why should we go by them? We are the Original People, the Ancient Ones! Who we are is very imperative in knowing our Ancient Nationalities, Cultures, Languages, Heritage, and Legacy!  Here in the Americas, we are the families of the Olmec, Aztec, Mayans, Washitaw, Yamassee, Folsom, Iroquois, Seminoles, Blackfoot, Cherokee, Choctaw, Natchez, Creek, Tainos, Arawak, Caribs, Ciboneys, and other peoples who are considered to be the offspring of the Ancient Original Ones. So, the Asians are descendants of Africans.

THE OLDEST PEOPLE OF THE PLANET ARE AFRIKAN! 10,000 years ago, when the Asian Aborigines Migrated to the Americas across the Bering Strait land bridge, THEY MET PEOPLE OF AFRIKAN DESCENT! We taught them how to survive and established their Governments to build their Civilizations! They accepted our Calendar, Systems of Measurement, and timeline- Also our Spiritual systems, Totem systems, Ancestral Burial Rites, Herbal knowledge, Language systems, etc,, etc., etc, and adapted it to this world. Then in desperation, they traded off their Dark skinned Ancestors as slaves and removed them from the Dawes rolls as "Freedmen" THIS WAS OUR PAPER GENOCIDE! WE ARE THE NATIVE AMERICANS TOO! We came to the Americas on our own ships- On our own accord, thousands of years BEFORE Christopher Columbus and the good ship Jesus! Now we call ourselves "Black people" and accept the western white supremacy racism of the "Tonto- Pocahontas" images universally to deny our Ancestral rites to this land. Now- We don't even recognize ourselves! We are like tourists in our own lands! We did not ALL come here in chains by Christian caucasians... PEOPLE OF AFRICAN DESCENT ARE THE FIRST PEOPLES OF THE AMERICAS!!! WE ARE THE MAYANS, OLMEC, AZTECS, NATCHEZ, CHEROKEE, etc... THE OLDEST PEOPLE OF THE PLANET ARE FROM AFRIKA! AFRIKAN DNA IS THE FOUNDATION OF HUMAN DNA! So, People of African descent are the foundation of humanity. DNA tells you who you are- It DOES NOT TELL YOU WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN! This is why Native Americans claim to be "Indigenous" and refuse to use DNA testing to reveal their Aborigine Australian and Asian origins. This is why i studied Anthropology in college. WE ARE STILL MIS-EDUCATED! THE WESTERN EUROPEAN AND U.S. KNOWS US BETTER THAN WE KNOW OURSELVES!

BLACK Melanin rich peoples ARE The REAL ANCIENTS OF THE PLANET! Our Melanin peoples WERE ALSO THE FIRST AMERICANS !!! The Ancient Original People erected the great pyramids and mounds in Amarukah, Amexem(Americas), and everywhere globally where these Signs, Symbols, Pyramids and Mounds can be found! It is monolithic mythology to say that we only arrive in the Americas by slave ships as enslaved Africans, for we were already here in the West before the palefaces arrived!
We know that there is evidence of our presence here!

YES! EVERY HUMAN COMES FROM AFRICA! AFRICA IS THE SOURCE. With that being said; Have you ever noticed that so-called Native Americans rarely get DNA testing? They have discarded this science to perpetuate their beliefs and mythologies, while debunking the facts that they acquired their spirituality and culture from the Ancient peoples of Africa, who migrated over aeons of time, to established civilizations -in the Americas!

THERE ARE NO ABORIGINAL/INDIGENOUS AMERICANS!

There is NO Native American DNA! So, Native Americans have AFRICAN in their DNA too! We all come from the same matrix of Mama Eartha in Akabalon! We are the Ancients!  Our Grand Children, the Mongolian Native Americans are not the model of the origin of human beings or Americans. AFRICAN DNA is that model! The presence of Africans in America predated Columbus. READ Ivan Van Sertima's "They Came Before Columbus", and many other Books that document the presence of established African Civilization in the Americas BEFORE Columbus, the Mayflower AND the Trans Atlantic Human Trafficking genocide war on Melanin people- Bennet's Before the Mayflower.
AFRICANS CAME TO THE AMERICAS INDEPENDENT OF CAPTURE, ENSLAVEMENT OR EUROPEAN INFLUENCES!

Although Much of the DNA of our peoples can be traced back to Africa as the motherland. (Just as so-called Native American DNA can be traced to Asia and Africa as well); DNA cannot reveal the time and presence of our Ancestars at a specific location on the planet. For instance, our East African Ancestars migrated to the Americas to establish civilizations, many thousands of years ago, long before 1492. Anytime you see the presence of "Native American culture", you are witnessing the presence of an African Society. You can see our presence in the Technology, industry, and craftsmanship, from Bead-work to Burial Rituals... WE ARE THE MOUND BUILDERS! #OurHistoryDidNotBeginAsSlaves #ASCAC #AfricanCivilization #AmenAnkh #IAmNatchez https://amen-parankh.blogspot.com/2012/11/ancient-africans-were-first-americans.html
To state that "All" African Descendants "Only" came to the Americas as Captured, Human Trafficked and imprisoned peoples is to deny the intelligence, ingenuity, sophistication, means, will and capacity to travel, populate and bring civilization to the planet, under their own free will. They deny the fact that Africans were, in fact, the first shipbuilders. They deny the parallel anthropology, of the signs, symbols, totems, lifestyle customs, burial customs, and languages context, that has been consistently whitewashed as "Universal Spontaneous generations"...

In fact, African people of later times would often come to the Americas on their own to search for their loved ones and often buy their own people from the auction sales- for the purpose of emancipation. Many Africans and Mongolians were married and had large families in America! The false myth and monolithic perception that Afrikans ONLY came to the Americas by force through the trans-Atlantic middle passage wars, and human trafficking, must be shut down as a false notion so that the truth can be taught to ALL children and our human dignity can be restored!

As every color comes from Black, so follows every HUMAN!

These "so-called indigenous native" Americans have denied and exiled and turned their backs on their very own, Afrikan Ancestral existence- Rejecting their own Afrikan Mothers, to place themselves like an elbow patch on an older shirt, into the false historical context of race supremacist. They don't want you to break their spell of lies.

Imagine, living in your home with your mother and Father. An Aryan man knocks on the door of your ranch home with land, water, cattle, and fish... and says, "I love your house!" He proceeds to force his way in and kills your father and rapes your mother... This murderer has now taken over control of your household and impregnated your mother with his mulatto child. You must either comply or die with this false perception... These "so-called Indigenous" Americans have agreed to a Mythology of one beginning story when there were many. They have rejected the scientific fact of DNA testing, to embrace their constructed "belief system"... Afrikans are the first/oldest humans on the planet! They spread and established civilizations across the planet...

The U.S. is the occupying invaders of the Americas under Maritime law, supported by the trilateral commission of Great Britain, The Vatican, and the US Incorporation. The US is a Kkorporatakrazy! Original Americans (Also Ancestors of African Descent) had its own federation and Constitution. Many, if not most of our People of African Descent were raided and captured right here in the Americas. Yes! We were here BEFORE Columbus landed in the Caribbean islands! We are the Moors, The Olmecs, The Mayans, The Natchez, The Cherokee, etc.... Many people are still stuck on stupid, believing the European indoctrination of "His" story, that Enslavement began in 1619, with the assumption that enslavement of people of African descent began in West Africa... We are under a paper Genocide, where the truth of our true existence in The Americas are oppressed
EVERY CULTURE ON THE GLOBE USES OUR SIGNS AND SYMBOLS!

BES the Ancient Twa Mother

The Ancients are Spiritual shamans and healers. It is time that we return to the Spiritual and healing Ways of our ancient ancestors, who walked and paved the way before us. We recognize not only the Patriarchs but the Matriarchs as well, for there is a MOTHER AND SUN feminine/masculine balance in everything.
You will find Pyramids and mounds as the foundation of civilization all over the planet- not just in Egypt

The Blackfoot, Natchez, Yamasee, Washita, Muscogee, Creek, Seminoles, Catawba, etc., were all first Black people. The oldest people on the planet are melaninated people from Africa. Africans peopled the planet. Our people may have "gotten lighter" over the years because we are many nations and Gnome societies. We adopted people because our societies - were not race conscious.) The stealing of our land and resources is a reflection of the philosophy of manifest destiny and imperialism by the US. It is the story of an imperialist conqueror! Now, our Black Native Aku/ Ancestors are being removed from the status of Native American and pushed into extinction because deniers are classifying us as Black freedmen of African descent and not Aboriginal Native Americans!
But know, we were in America aeons before the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria and before the Mayflower! Many horrors & slaughters happened to us before the transatlantic/ middle passage captured and imported people from Africa!!!

http://bafsudralam.blogspot.com/

The Caucasians are essentially Identity Thieves. Everything that Aryan Caucasians claim, own, or represent was stolen from Indigo people. The Moors, conquered and governed Europe for almost 1000 years. They broke the spell of Bes, the Curse of the Dark Ages, and the Flat Earth, which was able to contain the caucasoids into a small population, in a small area in the north, for Aeons, where they were afraid to cross. During their government, the Moors brought Wealth and Health, through East and West African Knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, Fine and Industrial Arts, Agriculture, Mathematics, Hygiene, Philosophy and the Enlightenment of the Geo Planet terrestrial movement, using electromagnetics and the Stars for Nautical movement.

Here are five Kushite/Khemetian/Moorish Titles of Nobility that ties so called "Indian"/"Indo"/"Indios"/"Indus", "Blacks" to the sovereignty of America/Amexem/Al Moroc/North Gate:

Islam is truly about peace, love and honoring thy mother. Islam is not the terror and war you see on the idiot box. (Tell-a-lie-vision)

The BLACK AFRAKAN Womb of Mankind is the MOTHER OF ALL PEOPLE!

"I’M EVERY WOMAN!"

If you submit to DNA testing, ALL MELANIN PEOPLE's origins will always come from AFRICA!

THERE ARE NO INDIGENOUS PEOPLES IN AMERICA! EVERYONE IS A MIGRANT!

MAMA AFRICA IS THE CRADLE OF ALL HUE-MAN Civilizations!

YES! Many African societies were in America BEFORE COLUMBUS.

WE WERE THE FIRST TO MIGRATE ALL OVER THE PLANET! We were in Europe, China, India, Australia, Hawaii ect ect ect!- EVERY ORIGINAL GOD WAS BLACK! We must disabuse these monolithic concepts that we ONLY Come from America or Afraka, or Asia, or came here ONLY as slaves from Afraka Alkebulan, (Muri Tah!).

The only difference between Americans and Africans is TIME!
ULTIMATELY WE ARE ARGUING OVER TIME AND NATIONALITY- NOT ORIGIN!

THERE ARE NO RACES! RACE IS A POLITICAL CONCEPT FOR CONTROL OF POWER.

AFRAKANS ARE NOT A MONGREL SLAVE RACE! - BLACK MOORS AND HEBREWS ARE AFRICANS TOO- NOT ASIANS! Asians are our Grand children! We did not come to America as precarious ship castaways! Our African Ancestors were Highly successful navigators and civilization builders way before 2000 years ago! Remember, It was Black Moors who navigated the ships of the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria! Moors civilized the Mediterranean, emerging caucasian europeans for almost 1000 years!

Below is the video of Ivan Van Sertima: They Came Before Columbus

We have people of color- then we have the pink people!

I Am -Taro, Presley, Brown, Bennet, Walker-AmenRa- one of the last surviving bloodlines of Natchez American Nations, who did not walk the trail of tears to Oklahoma. Eye am also TUTSI East Akabalon! EYE AM PROUD TO KNOW MY FAMILY ORIGINS! We have chosen to align and support our brothers and sisters, who claim the bloodlines of their Ancestors who had come to America through the trans-Atlantic War, invasion and human trafficking. US Invaders attacked Africa, Just as they did America. How Can we "all" embrace this issues of Indigenous, Americans, when many indigenous Americans still believe the false race supremacy propaganda that aboriginal people of America cannot possess African/Akabalon features or come from Akabalon before Columbus landed on the islands? Africans are just as indigenous to America as anyone of Asian ancestry migrants. Black skinned, nappy haired people, have always been here, and are not just "grafted" into Native communities by enslavement. To believe and perpetuate these erroneous concepts is to also reinforce the lies that Black skinned and nappy haired peoples are inferior subhumans, which only plays into white supremacy! Many so-called Indigenous Americans are rejecting and removing our Black Ancestors from birth records and registration  Dawes rolls of Native American sovereign societies, yet more and more of caucasian mayflower invader ancestors, are replacing our people and receiving sovereign acceptance. I AM NATCHEZ! ‪#‎amenankh‬ ‪#‎iamnatchez‬ #iamancient

US invaders ARE NOT AMERICANS! The pilgrim Quakers, Mennonites, Protestants, Catholic Christians etc., who came to the Americas, came with the same evangelical mission. It was a conquering war mission to proselytize all people and torture them to give up their way of life, and their natural land access, to submit and be subject to their western ways! Their monthly holidays are the ritual, symbolic re-enactments of the slaughter, massacres, murders, assassinations, and destruction of the environment, by this society for their own survival. We live among them, on our own lands, that they murdered our people to now occupy.
November is Native American History Month Yet, the only stories we hear are about a “Thanksgiving” of pilgrim invaders who stole-Killed and destroyed our people, and a Black Friday that does not reflect the dignity of our people! They slaughter millions of turkeys, and eat them, like a holey sacrament, in effigy of the mass murder of our people!

  • We are saying that The "white" man was not the first to bring our ancestors here. Our Ancestors were here already, before Columbus. Our Ancestors had the sophistication, ambition, and technology to establish civilizations all over the planet without the assistance of enslavers. Our Ancestors were kidnaped and enslaved right here in the Americas, as well as Africa. Race is a social construct, not based in real science... WE ARE THE RED MAN! Redmen got "lighter through rape and assimilation...

We give thanks and praise always and ONLY to the Great Supreme Divine Spirit Kandaki MA NUT!

She is the True Creator whom we sacredly recognize. Honors to the Earth and the Universe whom the Great Spirit Amen has made, and all elements connected to us. Thanks to the Ancients whose Spirits we ask to surround and guide us on this ancient level. It is time that we reclaim what is rightfully ours as the Spiritual Nation and Royal Priesthood! We are connected to the Ancients by Spirit no matter what earthly area you reside at. I am the temple of the most high! Wherever my body goes, I arrive in my star-ship.

The Amen Par Ankh is a movement of Gnomes, We respect the Sisters; Mothers of Civilization! Despite what spirituality, faith, religion, or movement you embrace, let us learn our Ancient Past and move ahead in the Future! Knowledge is POWER! We call on all aboriginal people to join us to honor and fulfill our Aku(ancestors) in Solutions that protect the land, living creatures, air and water. We are stewards to Nature and the earth. We connect with the universe, in meditation to actively live in harmony with creation. We are called and mandated to repair the violations to the environment and live in peace and in the spirit of justice. We must move to protect the voiceless in caring for Geb/Ta- Mother Earth. We wish to share in the knowledge of Aboriginal People of this Planet. Although Black is the essence of all things, the spectrum of numerous colors, we do not identify ourselves as Negro, Black, or African American. We are not religious cultures of Moors, Christians, Hebrews, Islam or Israelites, which some people preferably classify themselves.

Kansas City EMWOT Sponsors Will Allen

Kansas City Hosts Urban Agriculture Pioneer Will Allen

Founder of Growing Power, Inc., teaches aquaponics workshop, gives keynote address.
By Adenike AmenRa
On August 27, Kansas Citians had the opportunity to meet and learn from one of Urban Agriculture’s most prominent innovators and advocates: Will Allen. As Founder and CEO of Growing Power, Allen and a crew of builders, accepted an invitation by Kansas City’s Green Acres Urban Farm and Research Project to spend a day here in town, sharing insights and technologies on the topic of “Abolish Food Deserts.” The day started with a keynote lecture at the Discovery Center in Kansas City, MO, in which Allen discussed some of the production technologies he developed at Growing Power, including aquaponics, composting and year-round production.

Allen also discussed urban agriculture in the broader context of food sovereignty and food deserts.

After attending a reception with youth at the KCMO Bluford Library, Allen spent the afternoon conducting a Master Building Workshop at East High School on Van Brunt Bl. At this event, folks learned to build aquaponics bunk bed systems designed to raise fish and vegetables in a nutrient-cycling unit. More than 30 participants acquired important food production and farming skills which they are able to take back into their communities and pass on to others.

Altogether some 150 people came out throughout the day to listen to, learn from and be inspired by

Allen. Kansas City Mayor Sly James authorized the presentation of the Key to the City to Will Allen,

which was presented by Assistant to the City Manager, Kimiko Black Gilmore. Brook Hollingsworth,

Lincoln University’s first aquaponics graduate, and KCMO councilwoman Sharon Sanders Brooks were

also in attendance.

Will Allen is founder and CEO of Growing Power, Inc., headquartered in Milwaukee, WI, with project

offices in Chicago and Madison. He received a MacArthur Foundation “Genius" Award in 2008, appeared

in Bon Appétit and Oprah Magazines, was named as one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People

in 2010, and appeared in the award-winning documentary FRESH. Among the many urban farmers and

activists inspired by Allen is Kansas City resident Sasteh Mosley, co-founder of the Green Acres Urban Farm and Research Project and CEO of the non-profit organization East Meets West of Troost (EMWOT). Mosley's farming career began in Milwaukee with Will Allen at Growing Power in 1993. Back then he wore many hats including marketing, wholesale purchasing, CSA organizing and Alabama farm research. His Growing Power experience laid solid groundwork for his life work of making the

connections between growing food, community development, and neighborhood empowerment.

The Green Acres' aquaponics project is a partnership between the City of Kansas City, MO, the KCMO

School District and other organizations. This project utilizes campus greenhouses at East High School to

launch an aquaponics program and initiative that will provide fresh food to the community, education, and hands-on learning for students. Through common goals, partnerships and innovative thinking, all

involved in this effort are chipping away at the problems of urban food deserts, compromised educational systems, crime and a lack of jobs. This project will feed people while nurturing their souls through a new connection to food, agriculture and aquaponics.

AMEN ANKH Urban Farm in Kansas City Missouri

 AMEN ANKH URBAN FARM

For Urban Families

Call us For Appointment: (816) 281-7704

Welcome to Urban neighborhood! We own an Urban Farm right "in da hood" of Kansas City, MO. There are so many green opportunities to live locally in the Urban communities of Kansas City.  It is so important that Afrikan Americans are models of successful families and property owners.

We highly advise growing your own plant based fruits and vegetables as well as  produce like eggs, bees and small animals whenever possible. This way you can build local nutrient-rich organic soil and adhere to sustainable gardening practices for highest food quality. Also, it is often better to purchase foods from local organic farmers markets or from small scale farms as opposed to large chain supermarkets.

A study in 1936, first reported the alarming rate of mineral depletion that modern mono-crop agriculture is having on our food supply. Unfortunately, it takes quite a bit of time to rebuild the soil once it is stripped of essential nutrients, in addition to the fact that it is not "cost-effective" for most big farming operations to invest in mineral supplementation

Today we have much less mineral content in mass-produced foods than we did 50 years ago due to other factors besides poor farming practices. Now, environmental pollutants as well as things like acidic rain are making it harder to replenish our foods (and livestock who eat them) with the minerals we need for our health and well-being.

So this is the best time to live in an urban neighborhood. With the Green Urban Agricultural transformations, growing food is an opportunity to support green economic development. Being able to grow a tomato right on your property, and sell that tomato to your neighbor, is empowering. This cultivates more vocational and positive entrepreneurial skills in our youth, as well as giving access to local, nutritious, healthy, naturally grown foods. The morning invites the neighborhood to stop by the farm. People are walking their dogs, or heading to work, It is a pleasure to be able to share my porch with someone who just walked down the street, and be able to offer a cup of coffee, tea, a smoothie, or a slice of zucchini bread fresh from the oven, or to converse with a driver who slows down, to ask about a tomato or pepper that caught their eye.  At the Amen Par Ankh(Sacred House of Liiving), we share wholistic Healing, Stress and Health counseling, Life Coaching, STE+A+M Education, like growing techniques, Foraging, Food Preservation, Wellness, Jewelry, Mandalas,  Yoga Classes, Meditation and Massage Therapy for wellness in our Indigo community.

Chapter 88-312 is the urban farm ordinance for Kansas City

Facing a stalemate between the food movement and real estate developers, Eastside representatives turned to alternative systems for aid. Former State Representative  and City council member, Sharon Sanders Brooks- along with Melba Curls, Cindy Circo and Terry Riley all saw the positive impact that less restrictive ordinances would provide for their constituents and supported amended ordinances, as a part of a 10-3 favor for reducing unemployment, and Community security. This also provided employment for Local At Risk Youth, the prison reentry populations and the elimination of food deserts. These community leaders looked to the mainstream food movement advocates to assist local “Agriculturalist and Green community advocates to oppose the real estate developers who were more concerned with the market value of real property and Re-gentrification.

Facing major economic development issues, eastside leaders leaned to the side of less regulation to create a pro-business environment.

Many Urban Agricultural Businesses, on the southwest side of urban Kansas City ran into difficulties, in past with Residential codes and maintaining a successful business.

It has become difficult for supervisors to instruct residential code inspectors to acknowledge and incorporate Urban Agricultural presence that has been passed since 2010, and still continue to write code citations on chapter 49 and Chapter 52 codes. Their lack of receptiveness to Urban Farms that are growing in residential neighborhoods, now that they are covered by 88 ordinances, can be daunting.

We have been successful in referring and identifying many herbs and naturally growing plant that were once considered as rank weeds, like Plantain, Poke Root, Clover, Lambs Quarter and Dandelion off their violation list. Since the inspectors only have jurisdiction and training on residential codes as residential properties, they are not referring these urban farms to the planning and zoning department that would cover the appropriate ordinances for this area as a home based business, or home cottage industry.  These ordinances have only been challenged by the few disadvantaged Black farmers and growers, who are virtually ignored by city prosecutors and Judges. This results in needless court dates, fines, and possible warrants on fledgling urban farmers who are already working diligently to emerge and compete in the already competitive food and growers market. This also creates an anti-business environment in the already devastated low economic development areas of 64127 -28 on the eastside of Kansas city, contrary to the support of the urban plans and downtown city hall leadership and representatives of Kansas City.

This makes it extremely difficult for activists and advocates to provide hope for distressed and disadvantaged at-risk youths, trying to escape underground economies and a failing job market.

We are also working to remediate water usage, using rain barrels and conserving gray water for reuse in the growing fields. We are using and installing IT tech assistance for optimal growth, food security, and automation. We are also Installing Solar alternative energy. We look to the future, where it is commonplace to incorporate urban agriculture in the cycle of urban residential living.

As an educator in the Kansas City public schools, I had often enjoyed the convenience of walking or using the bus or riding my bike, to get to the local school where I worked. My students and their parents always knew me from the neighborhood. Living in the city also made it easy to be involved and to support school sport games and activities, not only for my own children, but my students as well. In the mornings my neighbors will see me working on the farm, watering herbs and food, in our lot and front yard, while students pass by, on their way to school. I have actually had people drive up to the farm and pay for their order of food right from their cars. Students have often stopped by my home for tutoring and counseling. I even get visits from graduates who show me their newborns. By being in the metropolitan area, my daughter, Grandson and I love to visit the local shops, museum of art, libraries and other attractions. There are still a few Afrikan American Cafes, restaurants, events, concerts and a lot of local, small farmer's markets.

We need more Afrikan American families to stand their ground to rebuild an urban community and then to, encourage our children to inherit wealth of land and property investment, by perpetuating and returning to their family homesteads, instead of starting from scratch, every generation. It is important to teach our children about financial literacy and green vocational and entrepreneurial career paths. We need to change our perceptions from telling our children to "get out of the ghetto," instead, to encourage them to get their education to return to their communities to infuse and reinvigorate their neighborhoods with new green solutions for the future. We need to pursue more green economic sustainable development for the future of the next generation.
