Kansas City EMWOT Sponsors Will Allen

Kansas City Hosts Urban Agriculture Pioneer Will Allen

Founder of Growing Power, Inc., teaches aquaponics workshop, gives keynote address.
By Adenike AmenRa
On August 27, Kansas Citians had the opportunity to meet and learn from one of Urban Agriculture’s most prominent innovators and advocates: Will Allen. As Founder and CEO of Growing Power, Allen and a crew of builders, accepted an invitation by Kansas City’s Green Acres Urban Farm and Research Project to spend a day here in town, sharing insights and technologies on the topic of “Abolish Food Deserts.” The day started with a keynote lecture at the Discovery Center in Kansas City, MO, in which Allen discussed some of the production technologies he developed at Growing Power, including aquaponics, composting and year-round production.

Allen also discussed urban agriculture in the broader context of food sovereignty and food deserts.

After attending a reception with youth at the KCMO Bluford Library, Allen spent the afternoon conducting a Master Building Workshop at East High School on Van Brunt Bl. At this event, folks learned to build aquaponics bunk bed systems designed to raise fish and vegetables in a nutrient-cycling unit. More than 30 participants acquired important food production and farming skills which they are able to take back into their communities and pass on to others.

Altogether some 150 people came out throughout the day to listen to, learn from and be inspired by

Allen. Kansas City Mayor Sly James authorized the presentation of the Key to the City to Will Allen,

which was presented by Assistant to the City Manager, Kimiko Black Gilmore. Brook Hollingsworth,

Lincoln University’s first aquaponics graduate, and KCMO councilwoman Sharon Sanders Brooks were

also in attendance.

Will Allen is founder and CEO of Growing Power, Inc., headquartered in Milwaukee, WI, with project

offices in Chicago and Madison. He received a MacArthur Foundation “Genius" Award in 2008, appeared

in Bon Appétit and Oprah Magazines, was named as one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People

in 2010, and appeared in the award-winning documentary FRESH. Among the many urban farmers and

activists inspired by Allen is Kansas City resident Sasteh Mosley, co-founder of the Green Acres Urban Farm and Research Project and CEO of the non-profit organization East Meets West of Troost (EMWOT). Mosley's farming career began in Milwaukee with Will Allen at Growing Power in 1993. Back then he wore many hats including marketing, wholesale purchasing, CSA organizing and Alabama farm research. His Growing Power experience laid solid groundwork for his life work of making the

connections between growing food, community development, and neighborhood empowerment.

The Green Acres' aquaponics project is a partnership between the City of Kansas City, MO, the KCMO

School District and other organizations. This project utilizes campus greenhouses at East High School to

launch an aquaponics program and initiative that will provide fresh food to the community, education, and hands-on learning for students. Through common goals, partnerships and innovative thinking, all

involved in this effort are chipping away at the problems of urban food deserts, compromised educational systems, crime and a lack of jobs. This project will feed people while nurturing their souls through a new connection to food, agriculture and aquaponics.

AMEN ANKH Urban Farm in Kansas City Missouri

 AMEN ANKH URBAN FARM

For Urban Families

Call us For Appointment: (816) 281-7704

Welcome to Urban neighborhood! We own an Urban Farm right "in da hood" of Kansas City, MO. There are so many green opportunities to live locally in the Urban communities of Kansas City.  It is so important that Afrikan Americans are models of successful families and property owners.

We highly advise growing your own plant based fruits and vegetables as well as  produce like eggs, bees and small animals whenever possible. This way you can build local nutrient-rich organic soil and adhere to sustainable gardening practices for highest food quality. Also, it is often better to purchase foods from local organic farmers markets or from small scale farms as opposed to large chain supermarkets.

A study in 1936, first reported the alarming rate of mineral depletion that modern mono-crop agriculture is having on our food supply. Unfortunately, it takes quite a bit of time to rebuild the soil once it is stripped of essential nutrients, in addition to the fact that it is not "cost-effective" for most big farming operations to invest in mineral supplementation

Today we have much less mineral content in mass-produced foods than we did 50 years ago due to other factors besides poor farming practices. Now, environmental pollutants as well as things like acidic rain are making it harder to replenish our foods (and livestock who eat them) with the minerals we need for our health and well-being.

So this is the best time to live in an urban neighborhood. With the Green Urban Agricultural transformations, growing food is an opportunity to support green economic development. Being able to grow a tomato right on your property, and sell that tomato to your neighbor, is empowering. This cultivates more vocational and positive entrepreneurial skills in our youth, as well as giving access to local, nutritious, healthy, naturally grown foods. The morning invites the neighborhood to stop by the farm. People are walking their dogs, or heading to work, It is a pleasure to be able to share my porch with someone who just walked down the street, and be able to offer a cup of coffee, tea, a smoothie, or a slice of zucchini bread fresh from the oven, or to converse with a driver who slows down, to ask about a tomato or pepper that caught their eye.  At the Amen Par Ankh(Sacred House of Liiving), we share wholistic Healing, Stress and Health counseling, Life Coaching, STE+A+M Education, like growing techniques, Foraging, Food Preservation, Wellness, Jewelry, Mandalas,  Yoga Classes, Meditation and Massage Therapy for wellness in our Indigo community.

Chapter 88-312 is the urban farm ordinance for Kansas City

Facing a stalemate between the food movement and real estate developers, Eastside representatives turned to alternative systems for aid. Former State Representative  and City council member, Sharon Sanders Brooks- along with Melba Curls, Cindy Circo and Terry Riley all saw the positive impact that less restrictive ordinances would provide for their constituents and supported amended ordinances, as a part of a 10-3 favor for reducing unemployment, and Community security. This also provided employment for Local At Risk Youth, the prison reentry populations and the elimination of food deserts. These community leaders looked to the mainstream food movement advocates to assist local “Agriculturalist and Green community advocates to oppose the real estate developers who were more concerned with the market value of real property and Re-gentrification.

Facing major economic development issues, eastside leaders leaned to the side of less regulation to create a pro-business environment.

Many Urban Agricultural Businesses, on the southwest side of urban Kansas City ran into difficulties, in past with Residential codes and maintaining a successful business.

It has become difficult for supervisors to instruct residential code inspectors to acknowledge and incorporate Urban Agricultural presence that has been passed since 2010, and still continue to write code citations on chapter 49 and Chapter 52 codes. Their lack of receptiveness to Urban Farms that are growing in residential neighborhoods, now that they are covered by 88 ordinances, can be daunting.

We have been successful in referring and identifying many herbs and naturally growing plant that were once considered as rank weeds, like Plantain, Poke Root, Clover, Lambs Quarter and Dandelion off their violation list. Since the inspectors only have jurisdiction and training on residential codes as residential properties, they are not referring these urban farms to the planning and zoning department that would cover the appropriate ordinances for this area as a home based business, or home cottage industry.  These ordinances have only been challenged by the few disadvantaged Black farmers and growers, who are virtually ignored by city prosecutors and Judges. This results in needless court dates, fines, and possible warrants on fledgling urban farmers who are already working diligently to emerge and compete in the already competitive food and growers market. This also creates an anti-business environment in the already devastated low economic development areas of 64127 -28 on the eastside of Kansas city, contrary to the support of the urban plans and downtown city hall leadership and representatives of Kansas City.

This makes it extremely difficult for activists and advocates to provide hope for distressed and disadvantaged at-risk youths, trying to escape underground economies and a failing job market.

We are also working to remediate water usage, using rain barrels and conserving gray water for reuse in the growing fields. We are using and installing IT tech assistance for optimal growth, food security, and automation. We are also Installing Solar alternative energy. We look to the future, where it is commonplace to incorporate urban agriculture in the cycle of urban residential living.

As an educator in the Kansas City public schools, I had often enjoyed the convenience of walking or using the bus or riding my bike, to get to the local school where I worked. My students and their parents always knew me from the neighborhood. Living in the city also made it easy to be involved and to support school sport games and activities, not only for my own children, but my students as well. In the mornings my neighbors will see me working on the farm, watering herbs and food, in our lot and front yard, while students pass by, on their way to school. I have actually had people drive up to the farm and pay for their order of food right from their cars. Students have often stopped by my home for tutoring and counseling. I even get visits from graduates who show me their newborns. By being in the metropolitan area, my daughter, Grandson and I love to visit the local shops, museum of art, libraries and other attractions. There are still a few Afrikan American Cafes, restaurants, events, concerts and a lot of local, small farmer's markets.

We need more Afrikan American families to stand their ground to rebuild an urban community and then to, encourage our children to inherit wealth of land and property investment, by perpetuating and returning to their family homesteads, instead of starting from scratch, every generation. It is important to teach our children about financial literacy and green vocational and entrepreneurial career paths. We need to change our perceptions from telling our children to "get out of the ghetto," instead, to encourage them to get their education to return to their communities to infuse and reinvigorate their neighborhoods with new green solutions for the future. We need to pursue more green economic sustainable development for the future of the next generation.

Eat For Your Life- Death to Life Foods for People of the Sun

Eat For Your Life!- Death to Life Foods for People of the Sun

By: Adenike Amen-Ra El aka Kandaki-Ma Nuta Beqsu Moses 11-11-2011

I give honor to our Great Ancient Ancestors! Our Ancestors established civilizations all over the planet. I relate this to one of the oldest creation stories from Ancient KMT - The Ausarian Resurrection. Ausar is the Benevolent Earth sovereign. He is considered to be our Daily Bread and all things Green and Growing. Within this ancient story, Ausar was divided into 14 pieces and buried across the planet. As traditional African people of the Sun KMT- we Ate Well as you can see from the photo above. It was commonplace for our Ancestors to consume a Mediterranean type diet- very much like the Free Original people of East Africa-Nubian Pastoral and the Moors. The Leviticus diet was written into the Mosaic Bible text and there are other Mediterranean diets, like "Kosher"/Hebrew, as well as "Halal"/Islamic traditions. There is also a common tradition of the bounty of foods, found in the west coastal fishermen of African, Caribbean, and South American regions. Black Moors dominated the Latin European regions for almost 1000 years. They brought their knowledge and cultural civilization to the northwest areas of the planet.

We must give honor to our Ancient Ancestors, The Twa/Khosan Hunter-Gatherers. Their lives reflect harmony with creation. Many compare their lifestyle to a Feast and Famine way of life. Their diet was a variety of omnivore consumption, eating with the seasons, as they foraged the land. Nuts, Berries, leaves, insects, Fish. Animal were their first teachers.

During the Trans Atlantic Wars of the 17th Century, our Ancestors were forced to live in the most destitute, uncivilized and inhumane conditions!  Many were severely malnourished and deprived of clean water, and their traditional nutritional access, from the tropical regions, or heritages. Many suffered from long term untreated illnesses and severe wounds and infections. This is Cultural Genocide.

Through their inventiveness, creativity and necessity, many of our ancestors made Succotash (Tuck and Stash) from the Fresh foods that were found and gleaned in nature, and roots, bark, and weeds they learned to make medicines, mixed with meat oils, and learned to eat meat scraps, like oxtails, and cow tongues, into what is now known as gourmet delicacies. Unfortunately, Black people are still consuming a lot of these food scraps, like chitterlings, and pork rinds, to their own detriment.

Yet, There were many free Black kingdoms of people in Europe and the Americas long before 1492. So not all Black people came from the African trans-Atlantic Wars, Invasion, and Human trafficking to the Americas. Many Black Ancestors were murdered or abducted from their lands right here in the Americas. Those who were abducted, often only received the scraps and rejected foods from their enslavers' table or ate from a common trough.

We can give no honor to our Ancestors by modeling and following after the Maafa of suffering and scraping together that they were forced to endure. Our children still suffer from nutritional deficiencies and early onset health challenges, like Diabetes, strokes, and cancers from these nutritionally deficient foods. In consequence, many of our people, torn from their mother's breast, lost the mother wit and knowledge of the natural bounty of berries, roots, hunting, herbs, and growing of our own foods for sustenance and healing.

If you are what you eat- then Slave foods may foster a slave mentality- Garbage in-garbage out. Unfortunately, our people have now become slaves to a tradition and  system of Prescription drugs, injections, surgeries, amputations, and other "medi-sins." Now, with GMO's compromising the Fruits and Vegetables in the grocery stores, and Fast foods with all of the Cool-aid chemically processed, high fructose, adulterated white acid foods, also water and air pollution, we have fallen short of the glory of living as stewards of the land and water resources and growing our own fresh local foods, along with truly caring for the environment. We have also become more sedentary, which lessens the chances of detoxifying from the poisonous effects of these foods, while our Ancestors worked, walked for miles, and sweated from sun-up to sundown in the hot sun. In consequence, Our people are now dying more in the US from food-related and Stress-related Illnesses, and diseases. This is  Black on Black killing, before Homicide!

Our highest death statistics are from stroke, High Blood pressure, Heart Attack, Diabetes and Cancers than anyone in the US. We are dying from the caustic effects of consuming these foods MORE than homicide!

https://ankh-seneb.blogspot.com/2010/10/the-hand-of-death-and-disease.html

We often go to the funerals of our loved ones, and often turn around during repass and serve our remaining families the same foods that killed our loved ones!

From the Bible, the Leviticus Kosher diet called people to abstain from bloody meats, swine, cats, rats and dogs, bottom-feeding scaleless catfish, and shellfish, etc. As "A people perish from lack of knowledge" many families who adopted Christianity, do not even believe in the necessity of following these Old Testament dietary laws. In many cases, they will recite "Rise Peter Slay and Eat" as their anthem. Yet our bodies are "the temple of the Spirit" We are called to cultivate our Minds, Bodies, and Souls to our highest levels.

The New Testament also states:

''I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.'' -Romans 12

NOW WE MUST BE VIGILANT TO RAISE OUR IMMUNE SYSTEMS TO PREPARE FOR A GLOBAL PANDEMIC!

Here are a variety of suggestions for dietary alternatives:

  • WATER is Critical! Getting enough Clean Drinking water every day is important for your health. Healthy people meet their fluid needs by drinking when thirsty. Most of your fluid needs are met through the water and beverages you drink. However, you can get some fluids through the foods that you eat. For example, broth soups and foods with high water content such as Watermelon, celery, tomatoes, Coconuts, or other melons can contribute to fluid intake. http://amen-parankh.blogspot.com/2016/07/nu-is-water-source-of-life-drink.html
  • Attitude is Altitude. Breathe Love, Life, Joy, and positive energy into your foods as you select and prepare them. Just as mother's milk is poisoned from fear, anger, or depression etc., all life can sense this energy. As you then consequently pass this into your loved ones, who are eating your meals. So Home Cooked Meals are best. Ergo, be cautious of restaurants, and even food handlers- This is another reason why Growing your own foods- to send each leaf stem, root and fruit, positive energy- as each plant gives energy back to you. Knowing your grower and chef is so important. -And I might add, this is why we bless our foods with gratitude.
  • RAW IS BEST! Eat more fresh locally grown Alkaline vegetables, nuts, beans, and fruits. Avoid over-processed grains like wheat, rice, and corn flours, etc.. Or choose Whole, Multi, and sprouted grain alternatives. Salads and Smoothies, including sprouted beans and sprouted grains, have the highest levels of enzymes. Processed grains and devitalized flours and white rice will raise one's glucose levels. Eating Cruciferous (Anti-Cancer) Vegetables, Like Broccoli, and cauliflower are excellent.
  • We can Heal ourselves! Everything we need biologically is in the natural environment anyway- right Now! We are Mind/Body/Spirit. We must raise our consciousness to raise our immunity and resistance to Illness- Sickness- and Dis-ease... LOCAL alkaline water, local yard foods like Dandelion greens, and Perslane, Herbal teas like Peppermint, Local Bee Polin, probiotics (Kombucha, Fermented Foods, like sauerkraut, Horseradish, mushrooms. Then regiments like- Intentional Breathing, Meditation, Earth Grounding, Sun/Moon/Star blinking Circadian Rhythm Sleep Patterns, Intentional exercise, etc. are fundamental.

  • We did NOT originally eat Grass... (All Grains are grass hybrids). With the rise of "Mon-satan" GMOs, (Bayer/Monsanto) most people, particularly, African Americans, are not only suffering from a health crisis due to an overload of complex carbohydrates from starchy grains like Wheat, Corn, and white rice, but from the toxic pesticides, growth hormones, and artificial fertilizers, (that most food in the grocery store is made from...) Many are moving towards a Vegan, Vegetarian, Fruitarian, Mediterranean/ paleo diet; of Vegetables, fruit, and fish... Now African Americans, are Dying from food choices, related illnesses...
  • If It has no seeds- don't eat. We should be able to reproduce the fruit that we eat.
  • Remember, the taste that many crave from their favorite meat is found in the many herbs, vegetables, and sauces that are used to season that piece of meat. and enhance the flavor. So eating less meat and more vegetables is a good protocol.  Always start cooking your protein, beans, and vegetable entrees with a base of finely chopped onions and garlic to lower blood pressure among many other advantages
  • Avoid Fried, Canned, and overcooked vegetables. These Vegetables lack the vital nutrients for your body. Steam, lightly Boil, Bake or Roast Vegetables. Avoid too much Acrylamide. This is often found in the carcinogenic dark browning and toasting on foods. (raw is best)
  • Try using Coconut butter and Olive oils as an alternative to animal fats and margarine.
  • When choosing protein, always remember that the strongest animals in the Natural world are Vegetarians! Elephants, Horses, Donkeys, Bulls, Buffalo, great Apes, etc... Only scavengers and carnivores eat other animals RAW. So they also don't pre-digest or cook their meats. The highest quantities of protein that is readily consumable and easily digestible are found in dark green leafy vegetables and dark-skinned fruits, nuts, and beans.
  • If you choose to eat animal flesh, eat it sparingly as a garnish rather than a main course. Avoid Industrialized Animals. Venison, Fish, or free-range organic flesh including Goat and Lamb, should be preferred. For best digestion, eat animal flesh protein with Vegetables rather than protein with Starches and complex Carbohydrates- Bread, pasta ect. (That's why eating Turkey with starches make you sleepy)
  • Remember- " Don't cook a calf in it's mother's milk" - Cheese and eggs- don't go together, hamburgers with cheese, Pizzas with beef and cheese, Hamburger helper etc. will cancel proper digestion.
  • Avoid ALL White foods, that are highly processed and preserved. These include Sugar, Salt, Wheat, White Rice, Corn, white Potatoes, and Dairy Products. Lower and eliminate Sugar and complex Carbohydrate intake. Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup, corn flours, and corn starch, often hidden in foods. These Starches create mucus and feed a variety of Parasites, Flukes, and cancer cells.   Try Real Fruit Juices, Maple syrup, Stevia leaves, Honey, or dried fruit as sugar alternatives.
  • Lower Salt Content. Too much salt, like sugar, is dehydrating and hard on the liver and kidneys. Try using Sea Salt sparingly. As an alternative. Dulse Seaweed can make supply salt and seasoning. Braggs Liquid Aminos – liquid amino acids are SO much more than a soy sauce alternative! This flavorful sauce is awesome on steamed vegetables, used to season pan-fried tofu or tempeh, or in all kinds of sauces. A ½ tsp serving contains just 160 mg of sodium and has 16 essential and non-essential amino acids. Kelp Granules – this sea vegetable is a great source of calcium, magnesium, B vitamins, iodine, and a number of other vitamins/minerals. Dulse is often used as a salt substitute. Nutritional Yeast – Nutritional yeast has a rich, savory, “cheesy” flavor that makes it a great salt substitute. It is an excellent addition to creamy sauces, sprinkled over popcorn, or added to rice or quinoa (learn more about the health benefits here!) Nutritional yeast is sold at many health food stores and is also widely available online. Herbs and Spices – season your meals with the right combination of herbs and spices and you won’t even miss the salt! The possibilities are endless, but a few favorites include basil, cumin, dill, garlic, ginger, oregano, rosemary, and thyme.
  • Eating a more Alkaline diet is fundamentally an essential path to wellness. Most of the foods that I have cautioned are considered Acidic on the pH charts of Alkaline foods.

  • Avoid eating after Sunset. People of the Sun with active Pineal glands switch from making and distributing Serotonin in the day, to Melatonin at night. So, our stomachs need to fast so that blood energy can properly be used for healing and nurturing other vital body organs.
  • Eating Locally Grown, and Native plants are the best foods.  Remember that most of the "foods" in the grocery stores are Clones and GMO replicas of what we once knew as food. They come to local food warehouses (grocers) from long distances and cold, gassed irradiated storage conditions. We develop Antibodies and immunity to diseases, by eating locally grown foods.
    • Furaha Nia Quote: "Buying organic is about more than just eating healthy. It is about supporting life. And supporting our growers who provide life. If we continue to buy genetically modified foods (that do not reproduce themselves) then our agriculturists will be forced to produce and market what sells - GMO. One day, there may be no self-reproducing food. Meaning... You cannot take a seed out of it and put it in the ground. And that's when we will truly see this US government show out."
  • That is why We Should GROW OUR OWN FOODS! In order to Free Ourselves, We must Feed Ourselves! If you live in an apartment or don't think you have the energy or time to attend to a garden for your family, sprout your beans and seeds before consuming. Grow your own Container garden of fresh herbs. You can grow indoors often right at your window sill. This is the best way to get vital nutrients directly into your prepared foods.
  • Learn basic CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver. for potential heart attacks and choking at family events. Check with our elders during bathroom times. Most Heart Attacks occur during bathroom times, from drinking too hot/ too cold water to straining on the toilet. Remember, statistically, it often takes up to an extra 10 minutes or more, after the 911 call for an ambulance or paramedic to arrive in an African American neighborhood.
At Amen Ankh Urban Farm, we grow and produce foods, fresh from our local farm, and growers.

I would like to encourage readers to watch Soul Food Junkie-

-I would also like to add a final note that not only is death winning overabundant and healthy lives for our families, many of our loved ones are not only leaving this world prematurely, with High Blood Pressure, Heart attacks, and strokes Cancers, etc.- But because of their food choices, they also live or shall I say subsist with obesity, Blindness, Amputations, crippling Arthritis, Cancers, colostomy bags and are pumped so full of drugs that they become a hardship to their families and society. I am neither a Doctor nor part of the American Medical Association; I am a Teacher, Mother, Daughter, and Grandmother who is working on my own health and wellness journey. It is my ministry to teach our youth to live in a green sustainable way. We eat what we grow and rarely go to the grocery store. We have established the Amen Ankh Academy and Urban Children's teaching farm. I feed students who come by my door. Instead of grass growing in our front yard, we have fresh herbs growing in the front yard this summer. Many youths have never eaten a mango, an avocado, or even green peppers, or a homegrown tomato. Most eat starchy school lunches and Fast Foods when they get home. Moms often do not have time to make a home-cooked meals. I had children tell me that they didn't know that you could grow food in the ground! Now, these children can identify herbs, eat plantain greens, dandelions, and drink peppermint tea with Stevia leaves as a sweetener!

On a personal note, as a child I can remember eating My Mother’s "Southern" Cooking. We ate Roota to da toota from the hog- ham, bacon, pig feet, lard biscuits, etc.! I loved my mom’s cooking- I also had a weight challenge most of my life until I became a vegetarian and African dancer. I remember her fluffy lard biscuits with fresh Butter and jam! I remember her frying bacon then frying eggs in the same grease, then saving the remaining grease to add flavor to her greens, beans, adding this grease to the sweet cornbread, or heating and frying chicken or catfish in it, etc. Almost Everything had pork and sugar in it. I ate cracklins fried from the Holiday ham. Even the sweet potato and pecan pie had a lard crust. We ate ham hocks and neck-bones in the Collard green pot, pickled pig-feet and hog-head cheese, and of course Chittlins! I also remember drinking, SWEET Lemonade, SWEET Tea and Cool-aid with my sugar water! We had grits, pancakes, creamed corn, lard based gravy, candied yams and cheesy macaroni!

Then I remember my Dad's first heart attack. I am a proud Daughter of a Father who was a Warrior in the US Military. He served almost 30 years in the Air Force. During that time, an Air Force candidate had to also pass a rigorous written examination to even qualify. It was rare for Indigo men to serve in the Air Force, also because of the severe racism and still existing segregation at that time. So he had a battle for survival everyday, inside and outside of his military experience. I was blessed to have had the opportunity to travel abroad in the world. After his heart attack, my dad began reading about health and wellness. He learned about herbs, Apple Cider Vinegar Protocols, and other Alternative healing modalities.  I imagine my Mother may have been so hurt when my dad rejected her cooking- yet, she refused to change or modify ANYTHING... Of course, this is the tradition that she was raised in! She took pride in her daily, Sunday, and Holiday dinners with the family. We always dressed for dinner. I learned to use my best etiquette and manners. This is when I learned to set a table and also learned so much about food preparation, culinary arts, cleaning and polishing. By the time Mom reluctantly broke down to change her dietary system- to using smoked turkey instead of ham hocks, vegetable oils instead of Lard, baked chicken- instead of fried, and Stevia, instead of sugar, or even aspartame sweetener ( which she later changed to agave), for flavor and seasoning, my dad had both feet cut off and was going blind. My dad also refused to take medications for high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and his strokes. Although he had heard about homeopathic medicines and Herbs- he did not know anyone around him to guide him through... Finally, His pride would not let him use prosthetics or a wheel chair, so he starved himself and ascended...

This southern cooking, also known as Soul Food is part of a heritage of Black culture in the US. Food is not only a source of nutrition, but a way of expressing love and comfort. Yet, Just because Our enslaved ancestors were industrious with pork-based slave foods does not mean that we should continue to serve these foods to our children and families, unchecked, to suffer and die, to join our honored ancestors. Primarily, Food has drastically changed. We now live in a highly processed world of Industrial farmers and imported foods. Small organic farmers are outmatched by most conditioned consumer demands. Most of the animals found in the supermarket were caged, neglected, and shot up with growth hormones and antibiotics for a higher turnover of sale. The GMO Grains (Wheat and Corn), Fruits and Vegetables come irradiated and with the insecticide build into the seed's DNA. These foods are acid-based and are harsh to our vital organs. They strip the endocrine glands, starve the brain, while overworking the brain’s endorphins and dopamine, like a narcotic. Our children suffer more intensely. Sugar and high fructose corn syrup products are a gateway to all addictions and addictive behaviors. Our youth now suffer from childhood obesity, diabetes, cancers, arthritis, and stroke. We have to wake up to yes, acknowledge and revere the legacy of our Ancestors and “How they got over;” then move on to higher health and wellness standards and goals for the sake of our next generations.

I am interested in de-colonializing my mind, body and soul, from habits, lifestyle, information and diet that I have learned from an alien society. I choose to move into a way of life that most closely aligns with my NATURAL anthropology.
Indigo People of Afrikan Descent have been removed from our natural environment and have in turn adopted lifestyles that are ill suited and make us disproportionately ill. There is a real biochemistry to eating that I am learning more about daily. It resonates with previous knowledge and experience. I am personally on a DAILY mission to challenge all previous misinformation and diversions to my cultural way of life because, clearly that information has been hazardous.

BLACK LIVES MATTER! We want to learn about liberation and Black empowerment, but we must want to LIVE liberation and Black power. Our Health is our Greatest Wealth. Please invest in our local Urban farming initiatives. Actions speak louder than voice. We are killing the children of our ancestry for material things. We live in an addiction society and everyone wants their fix... Once you know the REAL- we must live in the REAL. We can't go back into the matrix. Ma'at is the Kemetic, Principal, and philosophy of Order, Justice, Reciprocity, and Balance. She is known for the 42-177 Virtuous Laws. ( These laws were refined to the 10 Mosaic laws, better known as the 10 Commandments. Maat is adorned with Eagle wings on her arms, an Ostrich feather as her crown, and a scale to weigh the heart of an initiate against her feather for it's purity.
